Elle extrait le CO2 d&rsquo;un gaz naturel en contenant 9%, par un proc\u00e9d\u00e9 classique aux amines, puis le r\u00e9injecte sous pression dans la formation d&rsquo;Utsira. Cette structure g\u00e9ologique de plusieurs centaines de m\u00e8tres d&rsquo;\u00e9paisseur est constitu\u00e9e de sable et d&rsquo;eau sal\u00e9e sur une surface de 26 km2. Elle est surmont\u00e9e d&rsquo;une couche de roches schisteuses qui en assurent l&rsquo;\u00e9tanch\u00e9it\u00e9. Depuis la mise en exploitation en 1996 ce sont <u>plus de 10 millions de tonnes de CO2<\/u> qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9inject\u00e9es dans le sous-sol. StatoilHydro qui est l&rsquo;op\u00e9rateur de cette plateforme, associ\u00e9 \u00e0 Exxon et \u00e0 Total, r\u00e9alise tous les deux ans des mesures sismiques qui lui permettent de suivre la diffusion du CO2 dans la formation d&rsquo;Utsira (FIG.).
