Daimler annonce donc une S400 Blue Hybrid pour l&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9 2009. Elle sera \u00e9quip\u00e9e d&rsquo;un moteur \u00e0 combustion V6, 3,5l et d&rsquo;un moteur \u00e9lectrique de 15 kW <u>aliment\u00e9 en 120 Volts<\/u>. Cette tension plus de deux fois inf\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle de la Prius, permet de concevoir une batterie moins on\u00e9reuse, comportant un nombre plus faible d&rsquo;accumulateurs en s\u00e9rie (aux environs de 35 \u00e9l\u00e9ments de type Li-Ion d&rsquo;une vingtaine d&rsquo;Ah). Ces accumulateurs de formes cylindriques sont produits en France par Johnson Controls-Saft et sont assembl\u00e9s en batterie par l&rsquo;allemand Continental. La faible tension utilis\u00e9e, a oblig\u00e9 Daimler \u00e0 positionner sa batterie principale sous le capot (FIG.), au voisinage du moteur \u00e9lectrique pour \u00e9viter les pertes en ligne et des c\u00e2bles de cuivre trop lourds et trop chers. Par contre la batterie au Plomb 12V, de taille r\u00e9duite, est report\u00e9e dans le coffre arri\u00e8re. La batterie principale est enferm\u00e9e dans un coffre d&rsquo;acier et l&rsquo;ensemble baigne dans un gel antichoc et amortissant les secousses. L&rsquo;exc\u00e9dent de masse pour tout le syst\u00e8me reste limit\u00e9 \u00e0 75 kg.
