Ce proc\u00e9d\u00e9 qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s \u00e9tudi\u00e9 entre autres, par General Electric aux Etats-Unis depuis plus de 35 ans, consiste \u00e0 partir de coke ou de charbon et d&rsquo;eau \u00e0 produire un m\u00e9lange d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne et de CO2, puis \u00e0 capturer le CO2 et enfin \u00e0 utiliser la combustion de l&rsquo;Hydrog\u00e8ne pour actionner une turbine \u00e0 gaz et une turbine \u00e0 vapeur combin\u00e9es. L&rsquo;avantage principal d&rsquo;un tel proc\u00e9d\u00e9 tr\u00e8s complexe et on\u00e9reux, repose sur l&rsquo;utilisation d&rsquo;un cycle combin\u00e9 \u00e0 tr\u00e8s haute temp\u00e9rature et donc d&rsquo;excellent rendement. Mais la capture et la s\u00e9questration du CO2 consomment une partie de cette \u00e9nergie. L&rsquo;installation de centrales \u00e9lectriques de tailles limit\u00e9es proches des champs p\u00e9troliers int\u00e9ress\u00e9s par des injections de CO2 est une fa\u00e7on \u00e9l\u00e9gante de valoriser ce surco\u00fbt par un meilleur taux d&rsquo;extraction du p\u00e9trole.
