Cette valeur a fait l&rsquo;objet de bien des estimations et de diverses \u00e9tudes analytiques. Cet exercice se poursuit aujourd&rsquo;hui avec la publication de Rystad Energy qui estime les ressources encore enfouies autour des 2100 milliards de barils. Cette publication est malheureusement exprim\u00e9e en volumes (et non en masse) de p\u00e9trole brut qu&rsquo;il faut convertir en toute rigueur en produits p\u00e9troliers raffin\u00e9s\u00a0 de plus faibles densit\u00e9s (FIG.) et auxquels sont et seront ajout\u00e9s des additifs oxyg\u00e9n\u00e9s comme l&rsquo;\u00e9thanol et autres biocarburants ou carburants de synth\u00e8se. Il faut donc convertir ces ressources brutes enfouies en produits p\u00e9troliers consommables en sortie de raffineries\u00a0 (\u00ab\u00a0oil consumption\u00a0\u00bb) autour des 2500\u00a0 milliards de barils. Compte tenu d&rsquo;une consommation cumul\u00e9e \u00e0 fin 2015, estim\u00e9e \u00e0 partir des publications de BP sur un demi-si\u00e8cle, autour des 1400 milliards de barils, il ressort qu&rsquo;\u00e0 partir de cette publication les ressources ultimes, exprim\u00e9es en produits p\u00e9troliers, seraient de l&rsquo;ordre de 4000 milliards de barils, mesur\u00e9s \u00e0 la sortie des raffineries.<\/p>\n<p>Cette valeur, 2 fois plus importante que celle retenue, de 2000 milliards de barils, par les adeptes du pr\u00e9matur\u00e9\u00a0 \u00ab\u00a0peak oil\u00a0\u00bb qui fit tant trembler la plan\u00e8te, a d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 avanc\u00e9e par certains sp\u00e9cialistes raisonnables des explorations et productions p\u00e9troli\u00e8res. A ces ressources ultimes, major\u00e9es par l&rsquo;ajout syst\u00e9matique de quelques pourcents de biocarburants (E10 puis P18), il faudra rajouter les carburants de synth\u00e8se issus essentiellement des conversions de gaz en liquides (GTL) qui deviendront, compte tenu des immenses r\u00e9serves de gaz naturel de la plan\u00e8te, une des sources essentielles de carburants dans le monde. D\u00e8s aujourd&rsquo;hui le gaz naturel se substitue au naphta dans la synth\u00e8se d&rsquo;\u00e9thyl\u00e8ne et donc dans la synth\u00e8se de polym\u00e8res issus de la p\u00e9trochimie.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>FIG.I : le nombre de barils de produits p\u00e9troliers par tonnes n&rsquo;est pas constant dans le temps. Cette valeur d\u00e9pendra dans le futur des prix des produits \u00e9labor\u00e9s disponibles en sortie des raffineries, prix qui d\u00e9termineront les efforts r\u00e9alis\u00e9s dans l&rsquo;exploration-production mais aussi les progr\u00e8s industriels r\u00e9alis\u00e9s dans la synth\u00e8se de biocarburants complexes ou de simples carburants de synth\u00e8se \u00e0 partir de gaz naturel.<\/p>\n<p>Aujourd&rsquo;hui estimer ces ressources autour des 4000 \u00e0 5000 milliards de barils de produits raffin\u00e9s semble \u00eatre raisonnable, il faudra, \u00e0 l&rsquo;avenir, actualiser cette estimation en tenant compte des progr\u00e8s r\u00e9alis\u00e9s dans l&rsquo;exploration-production ainsi que dans les techniques de la p\u00e9trochimie qui feront de plus en plus appel au gaz naturel largement disponible et aux biocarburants de plus en plus complexes.<\/p>\n<p>Une seule certitude: ceci ne se r\u00e9alisera qu&rsquo;avec des prix de produits p\u00e9troliers et de carburants de plus en plus r\u00e9mun\u00e9rateurs en sortie de raffineries, prix qui permettront de rendre rentables les recherches et d\u00e9veloppements industriels \u00e0 conduire.
