Un objectif pour 2030, \u00e9labor\u00e9 par le Department of Energy (DOE) envisage les nouvelles ressources \u00e9lectriques suivantes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00e9nergies renouvelables: 70 GWe<\/li>\n<li>\u00e9lectronucl\u00e9aire: 64 GWe (puis 300 GWe en 2050)<\/li>\n<li>charbon de nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration : 150 GWe (par modernisation des usines existantes et avec un rendement de 49%) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cette politique tous azimuts, o\u00f9 figureront aussi des centrales au&nbsp; gaz \u00e0 cycle combin\u00e9, coupl\u00e9e \u00e0 une politique d&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique est la vraie solution pour les ann\u00e9es \u00e0 venir. Le programme \u00e9lectronucl\u00e9aire qui va n\u00e9cessiter la construction de plusieurs dizaines de centrales, devait \u00eatre appuy\u00e9 par un travail de fond de R&amp;D. Le DOE et l&rsquo;EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) ont donc d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de signer un accord de collaboration dans ce domaine. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Cet accord se fixe deux objectifs:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>accompagner le d\u00e9veloppement et la construction des nouvelles usines \u00e9lectronucl\u00e9aires,<\/li>\n<li>maximiser la contribution des centrales existantes en \u00e9tendant leur dur\u00e9e op\u00e9rationnelle, au del\u00e0 des 60 ans programm\u00e9s, en <u>essayant d&rsquo;atteindre 80 ans<\/u>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Les th\u00e8mes de recherche sont tr\u00e8s nombreux, comme par exemple:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>rechercher de nouveaux syst\u00e8mes de refroidissement,<\/li>\n<li>former le personnel qui sera n\u00e9cessaire pour les nombreuse centrales,<\/li>\n<li>r\u00e9duire les d\u00e9lais et les co\u00fbts de construction,<\/li>\n<li>d\u00e9velopper des lignes \u00e0 haute tension s&rsquo;int\u00e9grant dans le r\u00e9seau,<\/li>\n<li>optimiser le rendement du combustible nucl\u00e9aire (high-burnup fuel), etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Les USA, dans le cadre d&rsquo;une approche globale des technologies possibles, ont pris conscience qu&rsquo;ils ne pouvaient pas se passer de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie \u00e9lectronucl\u00e9aire. Ils vont donc lancer un plan de construction d&rsquo;une dixaine de centrales par an et un plan d&rsquo;am\u00e9lioration des centrales existantes pour porter leur dur\u00e9e de vie \u00e0 80 ans. L&rsquo;appui d&rsquo;\u00e9quipes de R&amp;D \u00e0 ces programmes constituera un apport technologique indispensable \u00e0 la r\u00e9ussite des projets.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Un tel programme devrait rendre penseurs les membres des \u00e9quipes du Commissaire \u00e0 l&rsquo;Energie, Andris Piebalgs.
