Au prix d&rsquo;une pollution maximale, d&rsquo;un gaspillage d&rsquo;eau, de terres devenues inhabitables, le Canada essaie de d\u00e9velopper (sans y parvenir vraiment), l&rsquo;exploitation des sables bitumineux de l&rsquo;Alberta.<br \/>173 milliards de barils officiellement exploitable, mais contrairement \u00e0 l&rsquo;Arabie Saoudite tr\u00e9s difficilement exploitable : il faut chauffer le sable pour en extraire le p\u00e9trole, ce qui consomme beaucoup d&rsquo;eau et d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie.<br \/>La production de GES (29 m\u00e9gatonnes pour l&rsquo;Alberta) ont fait <\/p>\n<p>du Canada un mouton noir de l&rsquo;\u00e9mission. D&rsquo;une mani\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, la production de GES a bondi depuis 1990 pour atteindre 747 m\u00e9gatonnes (25 % en plus). <br \/>La consommation d&rsquo;eau atteint 349 millions de M3, et il n&rsquo;est pas s\u00fbr que les rivi\u00e8res locales puissent encore suivre longtemps le rythme, le niveau de la rivi\u00e8re Athabasca ne cesse de baisser depuis 30 ans, non seulement en raison du pompage, mais aussi \u00e0 cause du r\u00e9chauffement climatique.
