Cette pile de type PEM est \u00e9quip\u00e9e d&rsquo;un catalyseur de d\u00e9-sulfurication optimis\u00e9, afin de pouvoir fonctionner avec un hydrog\u00e8ne contenant jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 200 ppm de CO et H2S. En effet, contrairement aux piles \u00e0 combustible SOFC, les piles PEM saturent rapidement d\u00e8s que le gaz brul\u00e9 contient des impuret\u00e9s. L&rsquo;installation est de type dit CHP, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire combined heat and power. La pile produit ainsi de maini\u00e8re simultan\u00e9e des calories pour chauffage ou climatisation et de l&rsquo;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, le tout \u00e0 partir d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne. Ce d\u00e9vellopement a \u00e9t\u00e9 rendu possible par un apport technologique et financier substanciel de la part de DaimlerChrysler, ainsi que de Hoku Scientific.
