En parall\u00e8le le march\u00e9 offshore, domin\u00e9 par <strong><span>Siemens<\/span><\/strong>, s&#039;est d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 en Europe pour profiter de facteurs de charges plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s (3500 heures par an ou 40% en Mer du Nord) ce qui a pos\u00e9 le probl\u00e8me de l&#039;acheminement de la puissance \u00e9lectrique de la ferme en pleine mer vers le r\u00e9seau terrestre, avec un bon rendement, par les technologies \u00e0 courant continu. Des fermes \u00e9oliennes de plus en plus puissantes, de plus en plus \u00e9loign\u00e9es de la terre ferme dans des Mers hostiles, il est \u00e9vident qu&#039;un param\u00e8tre cl\u00e9 entre alors en jeu: la fiabilit\u00e9 du syst\u00e8me ainsi que la p\u00e9riodicit\u00e9 et la lourdeur des op\u00e9rations de maintenance.
