Les plus \u00e9tudi\u00e9s et recherch\u00e9s dans la nature sont les clathrates de gaz naturel qui sont majoritairement des hydrates de m\u00e9thane. D&#039;apr\u00e8s le Leibnitz Institute de Kiel il y en aurait dans le monde pour 3000 Gigatonnes de carbone, mais d&#039;apr\u00e8s l&#039;USGS&#160;ces hydrates repr\u00e9senteraient 10 mille Gigatonnes de carbone soit <span>entre une et trois fois&#160;la somme des r\u00e9serves de gaz, de p\u00e9trole et de charbon<\/span>. C&#039;est donc, potentiellement, la premi\u00e8re ressource d&#039;\u00e9nergie primaire au monde, jusqu&#039;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent inexploit\u00e9e sinon ignor\u00e9e.&#160;Mais l&#039;int\u00e9r\u00eat pour ces gisements pourrait s&#039;amplifier durant les d\u00e9cennies \u00e0 venir. Au mois de Mai par exemple, le National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) du D\u00e9partment of Energy am\u00e9ricain a annonc\u00e9 que la derni\u00e8re exploration d&#039;hydrates de gaz naturel&#160;dans le Golfe du Mexique, Leg II,&#160;conduite par un consortium dirig\u00e9 par Chevron, avait confirm\u00e9 par forage,&#160;la pr\u00e9sence de&#160;couches d&#039;hydrates m\u00e9lang\u00e9es \u00e0 du sable, vers 1000 m\u00e8tres au dessous du fond marin, ceci en accord avec les pr\u00e9visions des sismologues. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.thesocialmedia.com\/leblogenergie\/files\/2012\/07\/6a00d83451b18369e201156fc0b924970c-pi.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"CO2_CH4_hydrate_swap\" class=\"at-xid-6a00d83451b18369e201156fc0b924970c \" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.thesocialmedia.com\/leblogenergie\/files\/2012\/07\/6a00d83451b18369e201156fc0b924970c-450wi.jpg\" \/><\/a>&#160; <\/p>\n<p>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; En fait cette ressource est largement r\u00e9partie dans le monde, aussi bien dans les oc\u00e9ans que dans les mers int\u00e9rieures (<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.thesocialmedia.com\/leblogenergie\/files\/2012\/07\/6a00d83451b18369e201156fc29a0f970c-pi.jpg\"><span class=\"at-xid-6a00d83451b18369e201156fc29a0f970c\">Voir cette photo<\/span><\/a>) . Les laboratoires de recherche, priv\u00e9s ou publics, en relation avec les professionnels du secteur p\u00e9trolier, se posent donc la question du mode possible d&#039;exploitation de ces gisements. Plusieurs possibilit\u00e9s sont envisag\u00e9es telles que l&#039;apport de chaleur venant de la surface qui d\u00e9stabiliserait l&#039;hydrate et lib\u00e8rerait le gaz (thermal stimulation). La mise en d\u00e9pression est \u00e9galement une hypoth\u00e8se de travail ou&#160;bien l&#039;apport d&#039;inhibiteurs de formation d&#039;hydrates, puissants antigels qui d\u00e9stabilisent la structure du&#160;clathrate. &#160;L&#039;utilisation d&#039;un m\u00e9lange combustible, permettant d&#039;entretenir une combustion ma\u00eetris\u00e9e est \u00e9galement envisag\u00e9e. Mais le proc\u00e9d\u00e9 le plus \u00e9l\u00e9gant, imagin\u00e9 par le japonais Ohgaki en 1996,&#160;consisterait \u00e0 injecter du CO2 qui viendrait se substituer au m\u00e9thane. La r\u00e9action d&#039;\u00e9change permettrait de&#160;s\u00e9questrer du CO2 et de r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer le m\u00e9thane. Formidable business potentiel.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; Cette r\u00e9action de substitution est thermodynamiquement possible, les&#160;clathrates de CO2 \u00e9tant plus&#160;stables que ceux du m\u00e9thane,&#160;mais la <span>cin\u00e9tique de la r\u00e9action est tr\u00e8s lente<\/span>.&#160;Cependant il est maintenant connu que l&#039;addition d&#039;azote par exemple permet d&#039;acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer la r\u00e9action. Le Leibnitz Institut de l&#039;Universit\u00e9 de Kiel a lanc\u00e9 en 2008 un vaste programme d&#039;\u00e9tude des probl\u00e8mes pos\u00e9s pour arriver \u00e0 une future exploitation des hydrates: c&#039;est le programme <strong><span>SUGAR<\/span><\/strong> (Submarine Gas hydrate Deposits) qui doit, entre autres, aborder durant trois ans (2008-2010)&#160; l&#039;\u00e9tudes des conditions d&#039;acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration de la r\u00e9action d&#039;\u00e9change&#160;en jouant sur l&#039;apport d&#039;autres gaz que le CO2, l&#039;apport de chaleur par combustion contr\u00f4l\u00e9e ou de polym\u00e8res (BASF)&#160;susceptibles d&#039;aider \u00e0 la r\u00e9action d&#039;\u00e9change (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifm-geomar.de\/fileadmin\/ifm-geomar\/fb2\/fb2_fe1\/cutecht\/SUGAR\/B2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Sugar B2\">LIRE<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/clabedan.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b18369e201156fc15164970c-pi\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/clabedan.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d83451b18369e201156fc25cf8970c-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"CH4_hydrate-zone-stabilit\u00e9\" class=\"at-xid-6a00d83451b18369e201156fc25cf8970c \" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.thesocialmedia.com\/leblogenergie\/files\/2012\/07\/6a00d83451b18369e201156fc25cf8970c-450wi.jpg\" \/><\/a> &#160;<\/p>\n<p>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; Ce programme Sugar se propose \u00e9galement d&#039;\u00e9tudier la m\u00e9tastabilit\u00e9 des hydrates de m\u00e9thane qui permettraient une fois stabilis\u00e9s de transporter le gaz exploit\u00e9 en haute mer et transform\u00e9 en hydrates,&#160;dans des bateaux r\u00e9frig\u00e9r\u00e9s vers les -15\u00b0C \u00e0 -20\u00b0C sous formes solides. Ce sujet avait \u00e9t\u00e9 abord\u00e9 ici \u00e0 la fin 2007, \u00e0 propos du projet de Mitsui Engineering qui se propose de valider exp\u00e9rimentalement une nouvelle fili\u00e8re de transport de gaz sous forme d&#039;hydrate solide et non plus sous forme liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9e (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.leblogenergie.com\/2007\/12\/japon-transport.html\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Mitsui hydrates de CH4\">LIRE<\/a>). Mais \u00e0 courte \u00e9ch\u00e9ance, un tel programme japonais n&#039;a que bien peu de chances d&#039;aboutir, compte tenu des prix massacr\u00e9s du gaz naturel et des exc\u00e9dents de GNL sur le march\u00e9. Remarquons cependant que le NEDO finance une \u00e9tude de transport d&#039;hydrates de gaz dans des camions r\u00e9frig\u00e9r\u00e9s qui seraient susceptibles d&#039;alimenter en gaz des unit\u00e9s industrielles implant\u00e9es sur le sol japonais et non connect\u00e9es au r\u00e9seau de gaz. Pour l&#039;instant, ces hydrates seraient produits localement \u00e0 partir de GNL import\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; Il n&#039;est pas n\u00e9cessaire d&#039;\u00eatre un grand strat\u00e8ge pour comprendre l&#039;importance croissante que vont prendre dans les d\u00e9cennies \u00e0 venir ces immenses r\u00e9serves d&#039;hydrates de gaz.
