Ces pistes en terre battue r\u00e9unissent depuis plus d&rsquo;un si\u00e8cle de quatre \u00e0 six motards, pour quatre tours intenses et spectaculaires sur un circuit ovale, en d\u00e9rapage quasi-constant, le tout sans freins (!).<\/p>\n<p>Qui dit d\u00e9rapage sur circuit de <em>shale<\/em>, dit malheureux &quot;arrosage&quot; pour le motard \u00e0 l&rsquo;arri\u00e8re (ici c&rsquo;est l&rsquo;infortun\u00e9 Garry Stead, devenu parapl\u00e9gique cette ann\u00e9e, qui arrose gaiement son poursuivant). Et ce ne sont pas les <em>tear-off<\/em> dont ces motards sont \u00e9quip\u00e9s (languettes amovibles fix\u00e9es en lamelle superpos\u00e9es sur le masque, comme chez tout motard de comp\u00e8t) qui leur permettront d&rsquo;y voir clair pour autant. <\/p>\n<p>D&rsquo;o\u00f9 l&rsquo;id\u00e9e d&rsquo;\u00e9quiper ces deux-roues d&rsquo;un garde-boue bas en plastique. Ces machines rustiques (sans aucune \u00e9lectronique), tournant exclusivement \u00e0 gauche, le <em>dirt deflector<\/em> est donc plac\u00e9 sur le flanc arri\u00e8re droit. Il est plac\u00e9 juste derri\u00e8re le pneu pour \u00e9viter les \u00e9claboussures g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es par la motricit\u00e9 de ce dernier sur la piste de terre meuble.<\/p>\n<p>Une vid\u00e9o du Gary Stead Speedway Benefit Grand Prix, en hommage au motard gravement accident\u00e9 du m\u00eame nom dont je vous parlais un peu plus haut: <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=3yKdPDBTat4\">http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=3yKdPDBTat4<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>A ceux qui doutent de la popularit\u00e9 de ces courses particuli\u00e8res, il arrive que lors d&rsquo;\u00e9v\u00e9nements importants, elles prennent place au Millenium Stadium de Cardiff (l\u00e0 m\u00eame o\u00f9 l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe de France de Rugby a vaincu les All Black d\u00e9but octobre en quart de la Coupe du Monde). <\/p>\n<p>Mais en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral le long de l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e, elle se d\u00e9roulent sur des pistes ayant par ailleurs un second emploi: l&rsquo;organisation de courses de <em>greyhounds<\/em>, les l\u00e9vriers. Et comme ces derni\u00e8res, le <em>Speedway racing<\/em> donne lieu \u00e0 des paris massifs.<\/p>\n<p>Ce syst\u00e8me contribue \u00e0 sa r\u00e9putation, m\u00eame si l&rsquo;on en parle malheureusement trop peu chez nous, notamment dans les pays scandinaves, les pays d&rsquo;Europe centrale et d&rsquo;Europe de l&rsquo;Est. Et dans de nombreux pays Anglo Saxons (tout le Royaume-Uni, l&rsquo;Australie et la Nouvelle Z\u00e9lande), ainsi qu&rsquo;aux Etats-Unis et plus modestement au Canada (source wikipedia.org).<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e9sol\u00e9 pour ceux qui croient au d\u00e9clin des sports m\u00e9cas avec les difficult\u00e9s d&rsquo;approvisionnement en p\u00e9trole, les mono 4 temps de ces b\u00e9canes s&rsquo;abreuvent exclusivement de m\u00e9thanol*. Et vu leurs rots m\u00e9caniques de contentement, elles adorent \u00e7a&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>*c&rsquo;est aussi le cas des Formule 1 U.S: l&rsquo;IRL roule \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9thanol, alors que les bolides de ChampCar (S\u00e9bastien Bourdais, le Fran\u00e7ais quadruple champion du monde de la sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9, vous connaissez ?) et de MonsterTruck roulent eux au m\u00e9thanol, avant m\u00eame que cela ne deviennent un imp\u00e9ratif dict\u00e9 par des consid\u00e9rations plus ou moins \u00e9cologiques.
