Il \u00e9tait \u00e2g\u00e9 de 71 ans.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/clabedan.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/markel1_s.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"173\"  alt=\"Markel1_s\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leblogmoto.com\/images\/markel1_s.jpg\" style=\"margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px;float: left\" \/><\/a>N\u00e9 en 1935 cet ancien des Marines avait d\u00e9but\u00e9 la comp\u00e9tition sur une <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moto-histo.com\/jawacz\/jawacz.htm\">Jawa<\/a> d\u2019occasion qui lui avait co\u00fbt\u00e9 25$. Il la rempla\u00e7a apr\u00e8s 4 courses par une <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclassic.co.uk\/bsa04080200.html\">BSA B33<\/a>, une marque dont il devint pilote officiel avant de passer chez <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harley-davidson.com\/wcm\/Content\/Pages\/home.jsp?locale=fr_FR\">Harley-Davidson<\/a> en 1959. Il avait remport\u00e9 \u00e0 trois reprises le Championnat AMA de Flat-Track dans les ann\u00e9es 1960. <\/p>\n<p> Mont\u00e9 \u00e0 28 reprises sur la plus haute marche des podiums de Grand Prix, il resta le recordman des victoires du \u00ab Grand National \u00bb 12 ans durant, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce qu\u2019en 1982 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amaproracing.com\/archive\/2006\/ama_ft_06\/jay_springsteen.html\">Jay Springsteen<\/a> ne le d\u00e9passe. <\/p>\n<p> Quand Markel renon\u00e7a \u00e0 la comp\u00e9tition, en 1972, il avait remport\u00e9 140 Grands Prix (16 GP sur 18 en 1965 par exemple) Il est toujours consid\u00e9r\u00e9 aux USA comme l\u2019un des plus grands pilotes de l\u2019histoire bien que son caract\u00e8re tr\u00e8s agressif sur la piste lui ait valu quelques suspensions de course pour \u00ab pilotage approximatif \u00bb (sic) \u00ab Je d\u00e9teste suivre les autres et si je dois pousser quelqu\u2019un pour prendre sa place, je n\u2019h\u00e9site pas \u00e0 le faire ! \u00bb aimait r\u00e9p\u00e9ter ce boxeur amateur, ic\u00f4ne de Steve Mc Queen. <br \/> Il faut bien admettre que dans ce sport consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme le plus dangereux du motocyclisme les \u00ab caract\u00e8res rugueux \u00bb sont n\u00e9cessaires.<br \/> Un esprit tr\u00e8s \u00e9tasunien qui le rendit si populaire qu\u2019il fut d\u00e9sign\u00e9 \u00ab Athl\u00e8te de l\u2019ann\u00e9e \u00bb en 1967 aux \u00ab Rider of the Year Award \u00bb de Daytona Beach. <br \/> Les 200 Miles de Daytona sont pourtant la seule course qu\u2019il ne soit jamais parvenu \u00e0 remporter. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nous venons de l\u2019apprendre : Bart Markel a quitt\u00e9 la grande famille du motocyclisme le 3 f\u00e9vrier 2007.
