Celle-ci se pr\u00e9sente comme une moto plus sage que la S4R qui a rencontr\u00e9 un fort succ\u00e8s. Lanc\u00e9e en version 800 cm3 en d\u00e9but d\u2019ann\u00e9e 2005, la S2R re\u00e7oit pour le nouveau mill\u00e9sime un moteur Dual Spark de 1000 cm3 afin de combler le vide entre la S2R 800 et la S4R 1000.<span>&nbsp;<\/span>Ce moteur est le bicylindre en L \u00e0 90\u00b0 de 992 cm3 refroidi par air avec double allumage et \u00e0 injection \u00e9lectronique Marelli que l\u2019on retrouve sur les Multistrada et les Super Sport. Cependant, Ducati a apport\u00e9 quelques am\u00e9liorations issues du moteur de comp\u00e9tition Testastretta. Le r\u00e9sultat est un moteur tr\u00e8s compact, l\u00e9ger et puissant \u00e0 mi-r\u00e9gime qui n\u2019a aucun mal \u00e0 emmener les 178 kg \u00e0 sec de la machine, il d\u00e9veloppe 95 ch \u00e0 7 750 tr\/mn pour un couple de 99 Nm \u00e0 5 000 tr\/mn et est \u00e9paul\u00e9 par un embrayage multidisques et une bo\u00eete 6 vitesses. L&rsquo;\u00e9chappement compact est compos\u00e9 d\u2019un double silencieux superpos\u00e9s en aluminium mont\u00e9s \u00e0 droite r\u00e9pondant aux normes antipollution Euro 3.<br \/>C\u00f4t\u00e9 partie-cycle, on retrouve le cadre treillis en tubes d\u2019acier de la Monster 1000, un monobras oscillant extrud\u00e9 en alliage d&rsquo;aluminium 20% plus l\u00e9ger que celui de la Monster 1000, une fourche invers\u00e9e Showa de 43 mm enti\u00e8rement r\u00e9glable, une monoamortisseur Sachs r\u00e9glable en pr\u00e9charge, rebond et longueur&nbsp; gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une tringlerie qui permet d&rsquo;ajuster la garde au sol ind\u00e9pendamment de la pr\u00e9charge, un frein avant deux disques de 320mm avec \u00e9triers \u00e0 4 pistons et un frein arri\u00e8re \u00e0 disque de 245mm avec \u00e9trier \u00e0 2 pistons.
