Son souci du d\u00e9tail et refus du compromis va jusqu\u2019\u00e0 certaines reproductions \u00e0 l\u2019identique de pi\u00e8ces non visibles, qui n\u2019alt\u00e9rerait en rien le fonctionnement de l\u2019objet, mais qui mettrait \u00e0 mal sa fiert\u00e9. Il se dit qu\u2019un jour, quelqu\u2019un examinera son travail, et il ne veut pas \u00eatre pris en flagrant d\u00e9lit d\u2019indolence, m\u00eame a posteriori.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet qui nous int\u00e9resse, et qui n\u2019est pas encore compl\u00e9t\u00e9, est une reproduction d\u2019une Harley Davidson <a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com\/Kieffer4.htm\">Knuckelhead<\/a> de 1947. L\u2019ambition est la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019une moto avec d\u00e9marrage au kick, bo\u00eete et compteur de vitesse, tous fonctionnels. Et heureusement pour lui, il poss\u00e8de l\u2019original qu\u2019il a restaur\u00e9, alors dans le doute\u2026<br \/>Au d\u00e9but, l\u2019id\u00e9e \u00e9tait de reproduire \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle 1\/6 uniquement le moteur. Ce qu\u2019il fit, mais se disant qu\u2019une moto compl\u00e8te serait encore mieux, il reprit donc le travail, mais cette fois-ci \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle 1\/8, ne voulant pas que le projet final soit trop \u00abvolumineux\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/clabedan.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/2009\/02\/17\/kiefferhd2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"470\" height=\"258\"  src=\"http:\/\/www.leblogmoto.com\/images\/2009\/02\/17\/kiefferhd2.jpg\" alt=\"Kiefferhd2\" \/><\/a> <br \/>Sur les images, le moteur avec les bougies est celui \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle 1\/6, l\u2019autre celui \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle 1\/8.<\/p>\n<p>Quiconque a d\u00e9j\u00e0 lanc\u00e9 un moteur au kick a fait l\u2019exp\u00e9rience des forces en jeu. Le probl\u00e8me en r\u00e9duisant le format des pi\u00e8ces est qu\u2019on les fragilise, alors que le ratio de compression demeure \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s le m\u00eame. Kieffer a donc adapt\u00e9 le m\u00e9canisme, sacrifiant l\u2019imitation pour privil\u00e9gier la solidit\u00e9 de l\u2019ensemble et en assurer le bon fonctionnement. C\u2019\u00e9tait le compromis \u00e0 faire, avoir une machine identique, mais non fonctionnelle, ou une machine adapt\u00e9e \u00e0 ses nouvelles dimensions et capable de performer comme l\u2019originale.<\/p>\n<p>Pour l\u2019instant, le c\u0153ur et le squelette du projet sont compl\u00e9t\u00e9s, lire le moteur et le cadre, reste la chair.<br \/>Le soin apport\u00e9 aux moindres d\u00e9tails va jusqu\u2019aux rayons, ajustables individuellement, et le logo sur le couvercle du filtre \u00e0 air.
