Et m\u00eame si le prix de l\u2019essence semble vouloir suivre l\u2019exemple de la temp\u00e9rature en descendant cet hiver, l\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019avoir un moyen de transport \u00e9conomique dont l\u2019usage ne se transforme pas en frustration, fait tout de m\u00eame son chemin.<br \/>Ainsi, pour l\u2019une de ces soir\u00e9es d\u2019hiver alors que de gros flocons tombent doucement \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur et que tous sont r\u00e9unis au coin du feu, voici le r\u00e9cit d\u2019un petit scooter qui d\u00e9buta sa carri\u00e8re en 1936 au Nebraska, son nom \u00e9tait <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cushmanco.com\/\">Cushman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Avec son allure de moto minuscule, le petit Cushman fut rapidement populaire, mais ce sera la Seconde Guerre mondiale qui lui apportera gloire et fortune. Enr\u00f4l\u00e9 dans l\u2019arm\u00e9e sur sa r\u00e9putation, un peu comme Elvis Presley, le simple soldat Cushman fut rapidement mut\u00e9 dans un commando de parachutistes de l\u2019arm\u00e9e de l\u2019air. D\u00e9j\u00e0 costaud, on le solidifiera pour qu\u2019il puisse survivre \u00e0 un \u00e9garement de son parachute, ce qui, para\u00eetrait-il, il faisait de bonne gr\u00e2ce pourvue que le sol ne fasse pas trop preuve de r\u00e9sistance. La compagnie put m\u00eame poursuivre ses activit\u00e9s pendant la guerre, car on la consid\u00e9rait comme utile \u00e0 l\u2019effort de guerre am\u00e9ricain, offrant un moyen de transport \u00e9conomique en ces temps difficiles.<br \/>Le succ\u00e8s public viendra donc avec les ann\u00e9es 50, mais les ann\u00e9es 60 furent plus difficiles avec l\u2019arriv\u00e9e des motos japonaises. Devenues des \u00e9l\u00e9phants dans des magasins de porcelaines qu\u2019ils s\u2019\u00e9taient eux-m\u00eames \u00e9difi\u00e9es, plusieurs compagnies comme Cushman se retrouvaient sans marge de man\u0153uvre pour affronter ce changement radical qui survenait dans un march\u00e9 qu\u2019il croyait captif.<br \/>C\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019au d\u00e9but de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1966, l\u2019on annon\u00e7a la fin des scooters Cushman, et que du m\u00eame souffle, d\u00e9buta la petite histoire de sa survie.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/clabedan.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/2008\/12\/22\/cush2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"470\" height=\"466\"  alt=\"Cush2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leblogmoto.com\/images\/2008\/12\/22\/cush2.jpg\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>D\u00e9j\u00e0, le d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 60 avait vu des tentatives de rajeunissement d\u2019un concept surann\u00e9, passant par exemple d\u2019un <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hobbytech.com\/index.html\">bloc moteur<\/a> en acier \u00e0 un bloc en aluminium, mais c\u2019\u00e9tait trop peu trop tard. D\u2019ailleurs, ce nouveau bloc, plus l\u00e9ger certes, mais min\u00e9 par d\u2019excessives vibrations, d\u00fb \u00eatre retir\u00e9 de la circulation. Ce jeu de va-et-vient n\u2019aidait pas le maintien de la confiance des consommateurs, et encore moins celle des concessions qui regardait outre-mer pour des produits fiables et attrayants.<br \/>D\u00e9but 66, c\u2019\u00e9tait la fin, mais il subsistait un important inventaire, surtout celui des moteurs et de ses pi\u00e8ces associ\u00e9es. Devant respecter une garantie de 7 ans sur tout ce qu\u2019il vendait, Cushman \u00e9tait r\u00e9ticent \u00e0 laisser sortir des moteurs, mais les voir prendre la poussi\u00e8re alors que la compagnie continuait ses activit\u00e9s dans d\u2019autres secteurs n\u2019\u00e9tait pas profitable non plus. C\u2019est ainsi que de grandes quantit\u00e9s de pi\u00e8ces prenaient r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement la route des ferrailleurs.<br \/>Certains amateurs gravitant autour de la compagnie et apprenant le sort r\u00e9serv\u00e9 \u00e0 ces engins, utilis\u00e9s comme motorisation dans certaines s\u00e9ries sur circuit tels les Micro Midget, se press\u00e8rent aux portes des ferrailleurs pour acheter, au poids, des caisses de pi\u00e8ces, parfois m\u00eames, des moteurs entiers. C\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 mesure que Cushman vidait ses entrep\u00f4ts, des particuliers garnissaient leurs sous-sols et garages de l\u2019inventaire du constructeur. Un march\u00e9 s\u2019est alors d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 autour de ce stock de pi\u00e8ces, car lentement mais s\u00fbrement, un culte autour du petit scooter se d\u00e9veloppait. Ne manquait plus qu\u2019un Club pour faire le lien entre tous ces amoureux du Cushman, ce qui fut fait au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 80 avec la publication du premier bulletin d\u2019information.<br \/>Avec plus de 2000 membres moins de 10 ans plus tard, le modeste club \u00e9tait devenu la bougie d\u2019allumage de toute une foule d\u2019activit\u00e9s, rencontres annuelles, catalogues de pi\u00e8ces, bouquin d&rsquo;astuces et m\u00eame un magazine. Et quand les pi\u00e8ces manquent, les membres en fabriquent, certains allant m\u00eame jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 racheter les machines-outils d&rsquo;origines de l&rsquo;usine Cushman.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/clabedan.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/2008\/12\/22\/cush3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"470\" height=\"348\"  alt=\"Cush3\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leblogmoto.com\/images\/2008\/12\/22\/cush3.jpg\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Aujourd&rsquo;hui, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 internet, l&rsquo;avenir du Cushman, du moins de ceux qui restent, semble assur\u00e9, le <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cushmanclubofamerica.com\/index.html\">Cushman Club of America<\/a> comptant plus de 5000 membres.
