La S-125 de Harley-Davidson avec ses 3 chevaux vapeurs profitait tout de m\u00eame d\u2019un embrayage \u00e0 3 vitesses au pied et d\u2019une fourche de type Girder dont le jeu \u00e9tait assur\u00e9 par des \u00e9lastiques. Le succ\u00e8s fut imm\u00e9diat et bienvenu pour H-D qui durant la guerre avait vu sa production civile presque compl\u00e8tement paralys\u00e9e. Et comme le march\u00e9 pour son gros Hydra-Glide reprenait lentement, l\u2019\u00e0-c\u00f4t\u00e9 des petites cylindr\u00e9es tombait \u00e0 point.<\/p>\n<p>En 1951, la fourche Girder \u00e9tait remplac\u00e9e par une fourche t\u00e9lescopique surnomm\u00e9e la Tele-Glide. Deux ans plus tard, en 1953, la S-125 laissait sa place au \u00abModel 165\u00bb, une version muscl\u00e9e de 165 cm3 et 5,5 CV. Mais apr\u00e8s l\u2019engouement des d\u00e9buts, la vente des petites cylindr\u00e9es plafonna sur le territoire am\u00e9ricain, o\u00f9 l\u2019invasion britannique avec ses Triumph domina le march\u00e9. Pas \u00e9tonnant donc, de voir Marlon Brando dans \u00abThe Wild One\u00bb, film de 1953, au guidon d\u2019une Triumph plut\u00f4t qu\u2019une Harley.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/clabedan.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/2008\/11\/08\/hummer2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"470\" height=\"309\"  src=\"http:\/\/www.leblogmoto.com\/images\/2008\/11\/08\/hummer2.jpg\" alt=\"Hummer2\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Mais si H-D voyait les ventes de ses 125 et 165 cm3 p\u00e9riclit\u00e9, ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas le cas partout, car chez un concessionnaire du Nebraska, Dean Hummer, elles se vendaient comme nulle part ailleurs. Plus \u00e9tonnant encore, le fameux scooter \u00abCushman\u00bb \u00e9tait fabriqu\u00e9 au Nebraska et faisait parti du paysage, alors qu\u2019on r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 vendre des petites cylindr\u00e9es dans un tel contexte tenait du miracle. En fait, le miracle n\u2019\u00e9tait gu\u00e8re plus qu\u2019une tr\u00e8s faible marge de profits, mais les motos sortaient de l\u2019entrep\u00f4t, et notre homme se reprenait sur la quantit\u00e9 et le service apr\u00e8s-vente. Ses succ\u00e8s eurent de l\u2019\u00e9cho jusqu\u2019\u00e0 Milwaukee, et quand vint le temps de renouveler la gamme des petites cylindr\u00e9es en 1955, on y greffa le nom de Hummer.<br \/>Bien que le mod\u00e8le Hummer n\u2019eut qu\u2019une dur\u00e9e de vie limit\u00e9e de 4 ans entre 1955 et 1959, le nom englobe aujourd\u2019hui toutes les petites cylindr\u00e9es issues du RT-125 de DKW, allant du premier S-125 en 1948 jusqu\u2019au Bobcat de 1966.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.thesocialmedia.com\/leblogmoto\/files\/2012\/07\/hummer3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"470\" height=\"352\"  src=\"http:\/\/www.leblogmoto.com\/images\/2008\/11\/08\/hummer3.jpg\" alt=\"Hummer3\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Le Hummer venait \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s nu, plus basique, il n\u2019y aurait pas eu de roues. Pas de batteries, mais un magn\u00e9to pour la premi\u00e8re \u00e9tincelle, pas de clignotants ni de t\u00e9moin lumineux pour les freins, pas plus que de klaxon.<br \/>Tout ce beau monde, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire le \u00abModel 165\u00bb et le \u00abHummer\u00bb furent remplac\u00e9s en 1960 par le \u00abSuper 10\u00bb, mais ce dernier utilisait \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s le m\u00eame moteur de 165cm3 que ses pr\u00e9d\u00e9cesseurs. Deux ans plus tard, en 1962, on en faisait une version hors route, le Ranger, histoire de passer le surplus de ce moteur qui arrivait en fin de carri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.thesocialmedia.com\/leblogmoto\/files\/2012\/07\/hummer5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"470\" height=\"235\"  src=\"http:\/\/www.leblogmoto.com\/images\/2008\/11\/08\/hummer5.jpg\" alt=\"Hummer5\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, les mod\u00e8les se succ\u00e9daient rapidement, et le Pacer, avec une nouvelle \u00e9volution de 175cm3 de notre moteur, verra une refonte de son allure \u00e0 peine un an apr\u00e8s sa premi\u00e8re pr\u00e9sentation. Une version hors route aussi na\u00eetra du Pacer, \u00abThe Scat\u00bb se voulait un double usage, avec le garde-boue avant mont\u00e9 haut, un guidon large et l\u2019\u00e9chappement haut \u00e0 la Scrambler. Et en 1966, le Bobcat fut donc le dernier de la lign\u00e9e allemande chez Harley-Davidson, et ne fut en service que l\u2019ann\u00e9e de son introduction. Il reprenait le cadre du Pacer, mais devait sa ligne \u00e0 un \u00abcar\u00e9nage\u00bb de r\u00e9sine qui couvrait le r\u00e9servoir jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la roue arri\u00e8re tout en supportant le si\u00e8ge double, une premi\u00e8re pour la descendance du DKW chez H-D.<\/p>\n<p>Mais comme les ann\u00e9es 60 allaient voir les d\u00e9buts de la d\u00e9ferlante Japonaise avec des produits modernes et fiables, Harley se consacra donc aux grosses cylindr\u00e9es sur son territoire, laissant \u00e0 ses partenaires europ\u00e9ens, MV Agusta\/Aermacchi d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, les petites cylindr\u00e9es urbaines.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9tonnamment, plusieurs des noms utilis\u00e9s par H-D pendant ces ann\u00e9es furent repris par l\u2019industrie automobile plus tard. Le <a href=\"http:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hummer\">Hummer<\/a> est le plus connu, mais Ford utilisa le nom <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lovefords.org\/78\/pintobobcat\/bobcat.htm\">Bobcat<\/a> pour une petite voiture de sa filiale Mercury et fabrique toujours une camionnette sous le nom de <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ford.ca\/app\/fo\/fr\/trucks\/ranger.do\">Ranger<\/a>.
