Les \u00abBrough Superior<\/a>\u00bb \u00e9taient d\u00e9j\u00e0 pass\u00e9s \u00e0 l’histoire de leurs vivants, si je peux me permettre. Mais c’est un d\u00e9c\u00e8s qui en fera des machines de l\u00e9gendes. Le 13 mai 1935, Thomas Edward Lawrence<\/a>, mieux connu comme Lawrence of Arabia, perdit la vie au guidon d’une de ses motos, sa 7e Brough, surnomm\u00e9e \u00abBoanerges\u00bb, ce qui signifie \u00abFils du tonnerre\u00bb. C’est d’ailleurs cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement qui ouvre le film de David Lean<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cette trag\u00e9die eut tout un retentissement \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque, et son lot de rumeurs. On disait Lawrence d\u00e9pressif et parla donc de suicide, puis la th\u00e8se du complot fit son apparition, faisant \u00e9tat d’une myst\u00e9rieuse camionnette noire sur la route \u00e0 ce moment-l\u00e0. Mais ce n’\u00e9tait qu’un accident b\u00eate, comme tout accident d’ailleurs. D\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 quelques jours apr\u00e8s l’accident des suites d’un traumatisme cr\u00e2nien, la commotion, si je puis dire, laiss\u00e9 par son d\u00e9part, amor\u00e7a le d\u00e9bat sur le port du casque protecteur.<\/p>\n

Amoureux de la vitesse et de ses machines, seules des heures de routes \u00e0 leurs guidons r\u00e9ussissaient \u00e0 le sortir d’une torpeur, que sa vie relativement tranquille en Angleterre apr\u00e8s son passage pour le moins mouvement\u00e9 au Moyen-Orient, engendrait.<\/p>\n

Sa moto, apr\u00e8s l’accident fut retourn\u00e9e aux ateliers Brough, remise en \u00e9tat, elle fut rachet\u00e9e par un historien qui la conservera pendant des ann\u00e9es. \u00c9valu\u00e9 \u00e0 plus de 3 millions de dollars, on peut maintenant la voir \u00e0 L’Imperial War Museum<\/a> \u00e0 Londres.<\/p>\n

Lawrence au sujet de sa derni\u00e8re moto: \u00abBoanerges first glad roar at being alive again nightly jarred the huts of Cadet College into life. \u2018There he goes, the noisy bugger,\u2019 someone would say enviously in every flight. It is part of an airman\u2019s profession to be knowing with engines: and a thoroughbred engine is our undying satisfaction. The camp wore the virtue of my Brough like a flower in its cap. Tonight Tug and Dusty came to the step of our hut to see me off. \u2018Running down to Smoke, perhaps?\u2019 jeered Dusty; hitting at my regular game of London and back for tea on fine Wednesday afternoons.\u00bb<\/p>\n
