PSA Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi set up a joint venture in Russia

07065026 PSA Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi have signed a joint venture agreement to produce vehicles for 3 brands, Peugeot, Citroën and Mitsubishi in Russia.

The assembly plant will be located on the site of Kaluga, 180 km South-West of Moscow. It will produce mid-range SUVs for Mitsubishi, Peugeot and Citroën brands as well as medium size Peugeot and Citroen vehicles, with an overall installed capacity of 160,000 vehicles. The foundation stone of this future plant will be laid on June 10th 2008 in Kaluga. Production is currently planned for 2011 start-up.

The joint venture agreement marks the deepening of relations between the two carmakers for whom Russia constitutes a priority growth region. PSA Peugeot Citroen continues signing partnerships to cut cost and expand its current lineup, which is a smart move. For the two carmakers, the new factory enables them to debut on a growing market without bearing all the costs alone.

In comparison, Renault has bought a stake in a local carmaker, AvtoVaz. Future will say which way is the best. Partnership or alliance?

Unlike the recent Berlingo model, the future Nemo won’t be available as a commercial variant and will compete with the Renault Modus and Vauxhall Meriva. An appealing design might enable the French carmaker to meet success as Modus and Meriva look conventional.

The Nemo will be built in Slovakia with an expected target of 100,000 units per year.

Citroën unveils the facelifted C-Elysee for the Chinese market

Citroen_celysee_1 Citroen took the wraps off the facelifted Elysée due to be unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show in less than two weeks.

The revamped Citroen adopts the corporate look by gaining a new front end in line with the marque’s most recent creations, new wheels and  new rear lights. Despite the heavy work done on the design, the Elysée can’t hide its link with the old ZX model sold in Europe in the early 90s. Like the revised Fukang, which is a true ZX, Citroen has improved the quality in an attempt to move the saloon upmarket. The equipment has been upgraded with a Bluetooth audio system, 6-CD hard-disk jukebox and USB socket as options, while the boot lid features an automatic opening function.

Citroen_celysee_3 Under the bonnet, the facelifted Elysée comes with a 1.8-litre petrol engine and latest-generation ABS system.

However, the French carmaker decided to give it a slight facelift which includes a new front bumper and a new radiator grille with wider and bigger chevrons.
