The Lamborghini Gallardo sister car, namely the Audi R8, will continue its world of motorsports conquest in 2012. After winning the australian Bathurst 12 Hours, here is more to come. The first four examples of the new customer sport race car, the Audi R8 LMS ultra, have been delivered ready for the 2012 season. Two other vehicles were shipped to Japan at the same time. This marks the start of part two of a success story: Since 2009, Audi has produced more than forty examples of the first generation of the R8 LMS and has achieved 119 international victories with the vehicle. And now its successor is ready to go. Two race customers collected the first examples of the new Audi R8 LMS ultra at the Audi plant in Neckarsulm. They will be collected in Japan by Nova Engineering, one of quattro GmbH’s four international service partners, and will then be presented to local customers there. Audi Sport customer racing will have delivered 20 examples of the new model by the end of April. The new Audi R8 LMS ultra boasts numerous technical modifications in comparison to its predecessor. The new GT3 sports car is state of the art in everything from its passive safety to much improved aerodynamics, a more efficient cooling system, and modifications to its chassis. At a purchase price of 329,900 euros (plus VAT), Audi’s newest customer sport race car is an attractive offer. This GT3 race car bearing the four rings also boasts very long intervals between overhauls. For example, the powerful V10 engine, which is based on a mass-produced engine, regularly clocks up 20,000 kilometers or more of racing before needing its first overhaul.

Video: Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4
Lamborghini unveiled the Gallardo LP560-4 at Geneva and this promotional video reveals a few more details about the revamped supercar. The LP560-4 is powered by the new 5.2-litre V10 engine which delivers a power output of 560bhp. The power increase combined with the weight reduction allows the new Gallardo to achieve a power-to-weight ratio of only 2.5 kg per bhp.

Geneva: Lamborghini LP560-4
Some faceliftings are more interesting than others. The Lamborghini Gallardo is one f them and gets a styling and technical facelift with an all-new V10 engine.Without a doubt, the Gallardo is a big success for the carmaker. In just five years, the supercar became the company’s best selling model of all time. After the SE and the Superleggera versions, the new v10 petrol engine takes the Gallardo to new levels.
The new engine is slightly smaller than the current unit and features a new direct injection system. Its power output gains 40bhp and jumps to 552bhp. The final power output is not so impressive if we consider that the Audi RS6 offers 572bhp. However, the Gallardo is also lighter than the heavy RS6.
The gearbox has also received all attention from engineers. Gear change time have been reduced by 40 percent, and the driver may choose between five different driving and changing programs. The most performance-oriented "CORSA" setting not only affects shift speed — it also directs the engine for maximum acceleration. The ‘Thrust Mode’ ensures maximum acceleration from neutral while the angle of the throttle valve and the clutch are optimized. Lamborghini engineers have also focused on weight reduction and the Gallardo loses 44 lbs. The Gallardo can be equipped with a carbon-ceramic-disc braking system which uses eight-piston Brembo calipers at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear. With all those combined improvements, the Gallardo can shuttle the 0-62mph in just 3.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 202mph.

Scans of the revamped Gallardo emerge on Internet
Scans of the latest Quattroruote magazine displaying the facelifted Lamborghini Gallardo have emerged on the Internet. The revamped Gallardo will gain in power and will also features minor exterior and interior minor changes. For the released pictures, the supercar comes with a new bumper at the front featuring a nose similer to the Reventon’s exclusive model seen last year. The headlight shape also evolves to become more aggressive. At the rear end the car is rumoured to come with a large carbon diffuser.
The new Gallardo is expected to see its power jumping from 520bhp to 550bhp and its 5-0-litre V10 engine will adopt the FSI direct injection technology. The power increase will likely enable the company to make some rooms for the rumoured Gallardo V8. Seen on the Audi R8, the V8 engine has a power output of 414bhp. In the Gallardo, Lamborghini could boost the power to 470bhp without threatening the V10-powered Gallardo.

It is 30bhp more than the current model and the torque will gain 15 lb ft at 390 lb ft.
Along the engine, the gearbox will also be improved and will be able to send more torque to a lightened all drive transmission.

Lamborghini might build 100 Reventòn

Lamborghini originally planned to build only 20 Reventòn but demand is strong and the Italian supercar maker is seriously considering to increase the number to 100 vehicles. This is a rumour but in the past Ferrari built more F40 than planned and more recently Maserati produced more MC12 than expected.Lamborghini Reventón debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show and is most expensive Lamborghini to date, costing one million euro. Although the exterior is partially new, almost the entire mechanics, including the engine, are taken directly from the Murciélago LP640. The exterior styling was inspired by the F-22 Raptor. The instrument panel in the Reventón comprises three TFT liquid crystal displays with two different display modes. The Reventón features a completely new G-Force-Meter which displays the dynamic drive forces, longitudinal acceleration during acceleration and braking, as well as transversal acceleration around bends. By simply pressing a button, the driver can switch to the second, quasi-analogical display, where there are the usual circular instruments; speedometer and tachometer. The G-Force-Meter still remains at the center of this display mode.
The Reventón is named after a fighting bull according to Lamborghini tradition. The car’s namesake, owned by the Don Rodriguez family, is best known for killing famed bullfighter Felix Guzman in 1943.

Lamborghini built the 3000th Murcielago

Lamborghini has celebrated its 3000th Murcielago. When you know that the supercar costs £192,000, one does call it a big success. The 3000th Murcielago was a pale Telesto grey LP640 heading to the United States. It took six years to sell the 3000 cars while the previous model, the Diablo, took 11 years to sell 2,903 units. While 2006 was a record year with 2087 delivered cars, 2007 promises to be better with 2,400 vehicles already been sold. But the main question is what will Lamborghini do in the future. Will it expland its range and focus on just two core models, the Gallardo and Murcielago supercars. Expanding the lineup is a difficult exercice as the company can’t sell a smaller model. Indeed, a smaller would likely compete with the Audi R8 sold by its parent company. The company CEO has ruled out the rumoured SUV.
Lamborghini appears to have chosen to focus on expanding its models’ range. The Gallardo will likely be launched with a smaller engine, a V8 instead of a V10 while the car maker has launched an exclusive model, the Reventon derived from the Murcielago.

VW Group to develop four new platforms

In an interview given to Automotive News Europe, VW brand board member for development, Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg revealed that Volkswagen group will release four new platforms in the coming years in order to achieve the 2018 target. With those new platforms, the German carmaker expects to reduce its cost by 40% thanks to components shared between the platforms and development times by one year. The most important platform will be the MQB which will underpin up to 6 million vehicles every year. The platform will be flexible enough to equip a large range of vehicles from small cars to upper-premium models. According to some insiders, the MQB platform will be used as in many as 20 different models.
The second platform, dubbed MHB, will be featured by the new VW’s rear-engine models, which will be sold over the world as a low cost model. Once again, one does expect to see the platform underpinning a few million vehicles. At the opposite of the range, the luxury models will have their own platform already used by the Audi A4 and A5. Dubbed MLB, it features a longitudinally mounted engine for front-drive and all-wheel-drive transmissions. The next A6 and A8 models will use the MLB platform. The future Phaeton and Bentley models will likely use the same underpinnings.
Finally, a fourth platform will be devoted to sports cars and will be used by the future Lamborghini models and the Audi R8.
With this new platform range, Volkswagen plans to increase sales from 5.7 million vehicles in 2006 to 10 million cars in 2018.

A new Lamborghini supercar?

If you are not satisfied by the power of the Murcielago LP 640 model, Lamborghini’s engineers are currently working on a new car that will produce more than 700bhp.No information has been reported on whether the car will be a tuned Murcielago or a new car. A more powerful Murcielago may not be enough at a time when a car specialist like Mercedes is planning to sell a supercar in 2010. Despite its impressive characteristics and constant improvements, the Lamborghini will be nine years old. Thus a new car makes more sense on paper.
Financially, 2007 is a very good year for the Italian carmaker. For the first semester of 2007, it recorded the biggest growth in the Volkswagen group with 1,200 delivered cars. But will it continue at this pace? That is not so sure.
The decision will certainly be made at Audi’s headquarters, which owns Lamborghini. If the German carmaker sees an Audi supercar as a potential foe, there is a big chance that Lamborghini will have a new car. If not, the next Lamborghini supercar may just be a revamped Murcielargo after all.

Lamborghini Gallardo V8 spotted at Sant’Agata headquarters

The website AutoGespot has released some pictures of the upcoming Gallardo V8, taken at Lamborghini’s headquarters in the Italian village of Sant’Agata. Not officialy confirmed by the Italian carmaker, the V8 version will receive the V8 engine, which equips the Audi R8. In the Gallardo, it will be a bit more powerful with 430bhp.
As we already reported, the Gallardo V8 makes sense for Audi Group. Audi can’t build enough R8 to satisfy demand because of fibre panels that are difficult to make. It can only build 20 R8 a day.Selling a cheaper Gallardo with the same engine as the R8 would enable Audi to redirect the unsatisfied demand to the Italian carmaker.
