    Here are three new pictures of the new Lancia Delta. These three new pictures reveal a bit more about the overall shape of the new Italian compact.

    A previous post reported more details about the range of the future Delta and also the pricing for the Austrian market. What we need now is more pictures of the interior in order to judge the new company’s philosophy focused on Italian luxury.

    An official brochure of the eagerly-awaited Delta has leaked on Internet giving details about the car’s specification and pricing.

    The Delta will be available with a choice of three equipment levels: Argento, Oro and Platino. The entry level will feature 16” x 7” 14-spoke design, wearing 205/55 tire

    The Delta will be able to combine all colours with a black roof or an optional “Avorio Micalizzato” colour; The standard colours will be similar to the colours featured by the Fiat Bravo and Croma. Three new colours will be available however: “Azzurro Fontanesi”, “Bordeaux Sansovino” and “Perla Sironi”.

    Alcantara is expected to be made standard on the Oro and Platino trim levels, with optional leather available; this will also bring the option of a two-tone dashboard. To the Argento-level specification, Oro will add standard cruise control and automatic dual-zone climate control; Platino will also include the Skyview glass roof and standard bi-colore paint.

    Technically, the Delat will be available with a choice of three petrol engines according to the brochure. The entry level will be powered by the 120bhp 1.4-litre unit and followed by the 150bhp 1.6 Multijet engine. Along the petrol units, there will be two diesel engines, a 120bhp 1.6-litre unit and a powerful 190bhp variant of the 1.9-litre twin-stage turbo Multijet diesel, developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies.

    The leaked brochure also gave an insight about the pricing. The 1.4 T-Jet Argento will start at €22,100 on the Austrian market. The 1.6 Multijet variant opens at 24,340 euros with the Argento trim level. Oro trim level will cost €2,000 more. In Platino form, the Delta will cost €27,500 for the 150bhp T-Jet, and €28,740 for the 1.6 Multijet. There are no pricing information about the 190bhp diesel unit.

    Lancia has revealed the first official pictures of the new Delta. Unsurprisingly, the new model adopts an original positioning, halfway between a compact and a saloon. For the carmaker, the new Delta spearhead a revival of the Italian marque.

With the new Delta, Lancia offers a new car at last derived from the Fiat Bravo. Lancia seized the opportunity to associate the Delta with its heritage and the press release doesn’t hesitate to mention the Aprillia, the Appia or the Fulvia. Unfortunately, the previous model to proclaim the company’s heritage was the Thesis. Despite its qualities, the executive saloon never convinced people to buy it. Intelligently, Lancia doesn’t try to associate the new model with the former Delta which rhymes with sportiness and not luxury.

    At 4,500 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,500 mm high, the new Delta is bigger than the Fiat Bravo and features a long wheelbase of 2,700 mm. On the inside, the rear bench seat can move forward and rearward while a new GPS system will be on offer.

    The exact spec of the new Delta remains unknown although Lancia gave a few details about the engine range. Both normally-aspirated and turbocharged engines will be available on the Delta. The range is likely to start with Fiat’s 118bhp 1.9-litre MultiJet diesel, and the topping engine will be to 200bhp 2.0-litre turbo unit.

    As reported in a previous post, Lancia will unveil the new Lancia Delta at Geneva and will be the group’s new attempt to relaunch Italian brand. Indeed the Delta model will be followed by a flow of new models in the coming years.

    Lancia will expand its lineup by launching new vehicles and renewing current successful models. Likewise, low volume cars will be discontinued. The first car to disappear will be the Thesis executive saloon which we never saw in the UK. Set to compete with the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class, the Italian saloon failed by sporting the ugliest grille we have ever seen on a modern production car. This is rather sad as the Thesis comes with an interior padded with leather whose quality compete with Rolls Royce’s. Interior quality was also praised by car journalists and considered by some to be better than the German clique.

    The new Delta will be a five-door hatchback featuring an upmarket interior. Lancia might expand its portfolio through derived variants such as a SUV and new coupé-cabrio. Within the next few months a decision will be made on both cars.

    2009 will be the year of the next-generation Ypsilon. Despite its qualities, the current model suffered from the competition of the BMW Mini model. This time, the new model will be available in both three and five doors body styles. The Musa which is quite successful in Italy and France, will be also be renewed. Although secrecy surrounds the future small MPV, it is already known that it will feature unique underpinnings as the Fiat Idea is being discontinued.

    Lancia also plans to launch an exclusive coupé like Alfa Romeo did with the 8C Competizione in order to spearhead a revival of the marque. The future exclusive coupé might be dubbed Aurelia in reference to the past. The last Lancia model to refer to the Aurelia heritage was the Thesis saloon.

    The eagerly-awaited Lancia Delta will hit the showrooms in June 2008 and will be Fiat’s serious attempt to spearhead a revival of the Italian brand. But one does not expect Lancia to come back to sports soon as it will focus on luxurious models.

    The compact car’s design will be close to the Delta HPE concept car unveiled at the last Paris Auto Show in September 2006. The concept car itself took its inspiration from the concept embodied in the Lancia Beta HPE during the second half of the Seventies to offer an up-to-date take on the idea of a sporty yet practical saloon. The production version will keep the concept’s dimensions. At 4500 mm long and with a 2700 mm wheelbase the future Delta will be the biggest car on its segment.

    The company has hesitated on the name between Delta and Beta for a long time, but a recent newsletter sent by Lancia France to potential customers confirmed that the company chose Delta. Sharing the platform with the current Fiat Bravo and future Alfa Romeo 149, the Dalta will also share powertrains with power ranging from 118bhp to 200bhp.

    The compact will be quite conservative but will come equipped with a unique roof whose details remain unknown and will feature a dual colour pain scheme. The car will be officially unveiled at Geneva.
