{"id":147,"date":"2008-05-17T11:56:33","date_gmt":"2008-05-17T11:56:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.thesocialmedia.com\/petrol-head\/2008\/05\/17\/our-naughty-dri\/"},"modified":"2012-07-17T14:52:02","modified_gmt":"2012-07-17T14:52:02","slug":"our-naughty-dri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.thesocialmedia.com\/petrol-head\/2008\/05\/17\/our-naughty-dri\/","title":{"rendered":"Our naughty driving secrets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.thesocialmedia.com\/petrol-head\/files\/2012\/07\/473966153_f5efa7c821.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\"  src=\"http:\/\/blogs.thesocialmedia.com\/petrol-head\/files\/2012\/07\/473966153_f5efa7c821.jpg\" alt=\"473966153_f5efa7c821\" class=\"image-full\" style=\"margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px;float: left\" \/><\/a> Research undertaken by organisers of the British Motor Show uncovered bizarre behaviour behind the wheel.<\/p>\n<p>A fifth of British drivers (21%) have been frisky with their partners whilst driving, almost a third flirt with traffic wardens to avoid tickets (30%) and a fifth spend more time checking out good-looking drivers than focusing on the road (19%), according to the research.<\/p>\n<p>The research found a dishonest fifth (21%) of UK drivers, who accidentally damage another car, don\u2019t own up to it, but that figure rises to nearly half (44%) of all drivers in London.&nbsp; Other areas of the country to avoid are Wales (19%), and East Anglia (18%).<\/p>\n<p>Supermarkets are also a hot spot, with nearly half (44%) of all secret prangs happening in their car parks, with street parking (32%) and multi storey car parks (30%) also topping the list.&nbsp; Reasons for driver behaviour include it being too much hassle to own up (19%), \u201cI\u2019ve had it done to me before\u201d (20%) and being in a hurry (13%).&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>The research also probed people\u2019s knowledge of the workings of their car, and unearthed guilty secrets here too. Nearly half doesn\u2019t how to change a tyre (43%), a third doesn\u2019t know where the dipstick is (29%), a quarter doesn\u2019t know how to adjust tyre pressure (27%), a quarter doesn\u2019t know the difference between the windscreen washer and the radiator cap (25%), a quarter doesn&#8217;t know how to refill with oil (25%) and a tenth put petrol in a diesel engine (9%).<\/p>\n<p>Below is the list of The UK driver\u2019s top ten guilty secrets:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eating at the wheel (67%)<\/li>\n<li>Chatting on mobile (37%)<\/li>\n<li>Flirting with traffic wardens to avoid a ticket (30%)<\/li>\n<li>Driving off with items left on the car roof (26%)<\/li>\n<li>Damaging another car and not owning up to it (21%)<\/li>\n<li>Checking out the good-looking drivers around you (19%)<\/li>\n<li>Putting on lipstick\/makeup\/checking hair in the mirror (18%)<\/li>\n<li>Reading a newspaper or magazine (13%)<\/li>\n<li>Using a \u2018Dr on call\u2019, when you\u2019re not a doctor (8%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Picture from <a title=\"Link to rjw1's photostream\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rjw1\/\">rjw1<\/a> on flicker<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Research undertaken by organisers of the British Motor Show uncovered bizarre behaviour behind the wheel.
